On 27th May, a group of seventeen teachers and parents from Winterfold and Bromsgrove Schools will be endeavouring to complete the full eighty-four mile length of the Hadrian’s Wall Path, from Newcastle to Bowness-on-Solway in three days to raise enough money to buy ‘the shoe that grows’ for the pupils at Ncemaneni Primary in S.Africa. The Outside Classroom: Sketching Plants and Trees
What a difference a day makes….! Year 1 made the most of the sunshine on 23rd May and went out and about sketching plants and trees, linked to their science topic. The masterpieces were then completed with watercolours and proudly shown to Mrs Toms.
Year 2 History Trip to Coventry Transport Museum
Year 2 pupils were rewarded for their efforts in History this week with a trip to Coventry Transport Museum. The hands-on Victorian cycle workshop brought the subject of Transport to life, with several children dressing up and travelling back to Victorian England. At ‘Wheelie Wicked’, the children followed an historic timeline of different modes of transport both past and present.
Aquathon
On 19th May, four intrepid Winterfold athletes competed in the annual Malvern College Aquathon. Basking in the Spring sunshine and overshadowed by the towering Malvern Hills, competitors swam, ran and transitioned for glory. Competition was tough, with eight local independent schools taking part. Well done everyone – a superb effort in a really difficult discipline.
Pupils to represent Wyre Forest District Team at County Championships
Well done to our Year 8 athletes who competed in the Wyre Forest District Athletic Trials on 18th May. We are pleased to announce that Eleanor D (200m, Shot Putt), Harry F (100m), Noah H (Discus) and Oliver B (Discus) have been selected to represent the District team on Saturday 9th June at the County Championships.
Winterfold Athletes’ Success at CTA Athletics Competition
Congratulations to our Winterfold athletes who enjoyed a very successful evening on Wednesday 16th May at the CTA Athletics competition. There were some great individual and team performances, with many bringing home the silverware. Well done everyone!
The Tudors at Stratford-upon-Avon
Year 1 enjoyed a terrific Tudor day out at Stratford-upon-Avon. A visit to Mary Arden’s farm brought the times of the Tudors to life. Their visit to Tudor World included a workshop which centred on theatre, and crime and punishment. Everyone had a great day.
Blessing of the Statue of Our Lady
On Thursday 17th May, the whole of the Prep School and Pre-Prep gathered in the secret garden adjacent to the main house for the blessing of the statue of our Lady. Some of the children scattered rose petals as they led the way to the garden. Together, we recited the Angelus prayer, sang ‘Ave Maria’ and we crowned the statue of Mary, to honour her as the Mother of Christ. Father Lamb then granted an official blessing to the statue and spoke to the children about her.
U8 Rounders Festival
On Tuesday 15th May, we hosted an U8 rounders festival. Six matches were played with teams from RGS The Grange and King’s Hawford. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the teams were clearly enjoying themselves, competing in a friendly atmosphere. It was a valuable learning experience for these young teams.
West Midlands Schools’ Orienteering Champions
On Saturday 12th May, Winterfold’s Orienteering team competed in the West Midlands Schools’ Orienteering Championships at Coombe Abbey Country Park, Coventry. Our sporting stars were overjoyed to be crowned Orienteering Champions for the second year running, in a competition which is open to all schools across the region.
