Junior Summer Concert showcases musical talent.

This morning’s Junior Summer Concert was a resounding success. Pupils from Kindergarten 2 to Year 4 joined forces for a musical spectacular. Arbuthnott Hall was packed with a supportive audience of parents, grandparents, family, and friends. An excited din filled the hall ahead of the concert as instruments were tuned and last-minute preparations were under way.

A hush quickly fell over the hall as Mr Price addressed the assembled crowd to introduce the first act to the stage. Junior Band kicked off proceedings with a rousing performance of Rock Around The Clock. Any nerves quickly disappeared as the first notes were sounded. The children involved performed with a level of confidence beyond their years.

The Year 2 Violins and Cellos Group impressed the audience with their excellent bowmanship. This wonderful ensemble of performers has only recently started playing together and all are at the very start of their musical journeys. The children gave a perfect performance of Under the Coconut Tree by Thomas Gregory.

We often talk about the musical journey that our pupils go on, but it was excellent to see it in practice this morning. Following on from our Year 2 Violins and Cellos Group we had the Junior String Group made up of pupils from Years 3 and 4. These pupils played Caribbean Cool and Action Movie. Both pieces demonstrated the step up from the Year 2 piece, showing our younger string players what they are aspiring to as they move into Year 3 in September.

From Strings to Percussion next up were the Junior Percussion Ensemble lead by Jaynie Berry. This wonderful group of percussion players kept perfect time playing Wonderful Winterfold Djembes alongside Miss Berry. Year 3 pupils then came together to show off their fantastic recorder playing skills. The very recognisable tune of Hot Cross Buns was delivered note perfectly.

Our youngest pupils took to the stage to perform as the Winterfold MusicMakers. Despite their young age the children were not fazed by the large stage nor the large crowd. The children confidently delivered three songs with plenty of gusto to the delight of their family and friends.

Our choirs were in fine voice. Pre-Prep Choir made up of children from Years 1 and 2 gave very animated performances of the Scoo-bee Doo Song and You’ve Got A Friend In Me. They were followed by Junior Choir who raised the roof of the hall with There’s A Hero and Songs of Disney Villain Medley.

The Concert was brought to a climatic close with all children joining together to perform the Ghostbusters theme tune. The energetic delivery from the children was that impressive that the children were encouraged to perform it twice! What made the final performance even more special was having our very own Groove Diggers provide the accompaniment.

The Junior Summer Concert was a real celebration of the musical talent that exists here at Winterfold. Concerts like this do not simply happen and are the result of plenty of hard work from our talented music teachers and pupils. Well done to all the pupils involved we are excited to see where your musical talents take you!
