Winterfold Children Sing in the Local Community

Children from Year 4 were invited to sing at the new café in Chaddesley Corbett Village Hall which has been set up by the local community to help people with dementia. The talented choir, including two soloists, performed a range of songs, which were hugely appreciated by the audience. Afterwards, the children interacted with the guests, chatting and playing a wide range of board games. It was wonderful to see the meeting of the two generations. The café organisers were greatly impressed and are keen to have us back again in the near future.

Pupils’ delight in showing off our School

We had very successful Open Mornings on Saturday 5th and Monday 7th October. Visitors were treated to a wide range of activities, from the Strings group and Chamber Choir in the Performing Arts Centre, live interviews in the Radio room, badminton lessons, to a mask performance in Penryn Hall, a yoga demonstration, many fun lessons to join in with and even a French and Spanish café. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Should you have further questions or wish to book a taster day, please contact our Admissions Manager.

Inspiring the Athletes of the Future

On Friday 4th October, GB Olympic Gymnast Kristian Thomas and Jack Rutter, Captain of the GB Paralympic cerebral palsy football team, visited Winterfold as part of a Sports for Schools initiative.  Children from Year 8 to Reception joined in with exercise circuits, followed by an inspirational assembly. The entire School listened attentively as Kristian spoke of his life as a gymnast, culminating in his competing in two consecutive Olympics. The ensuing gymnastic demonstration was breathtaking and the children’s reactions were a fitting sign of how much they were enjoying it.  They were particularly in awe of the children who were prepared to lie down for Kristian to somersault over them and Mrs Toms who, when asked to join them, was a very good sport and did so too. It was a truly inspirational visit which will encourage the children to keep trying new sports and have fun whilst enjoying them.

The White Socks Theatre Company Entertain With Poignant Messages

On Thursday 3rd October, the White Socks Theatre Company treated the Prep School to a unique performance exploring children’s mental health in a very interactive way; the children took part in various games and won points for their teams, whilst learning what mental health issues might affect them, as well as learning strategies to cope with them. All of the children were thoroughly engaged in what was an excellent piece.

Strings Day

A group of our senior string players travelled to Dean Close school for their annual strings day. This event is run by the world class Carducci String Quartet who are resident at the school. The day was split into workshops and rehearsals, culminating in a fantastic concert in their amazing school theatre. It was a hugely inspiring day and a good bench mark of where everyone is in their musical development. Well done to all.

The Blessing of Our Pets

On Thursday 3rd October, the Secret Garden turned into a veritable menagerie where dogs, cats, rabbits, and tortoises were blessed by Father Lamb in a service to celebrate the feast of St Francis, The animals were very well behaved, as the children and parents joined together to sing All Things Bright and Beautiful. Remarkably, not a bark was heard during the prayers led by Father Lamb and each animal was blessed following the service. Thank you to everyone who joined us this morning.
