Year 7 visit the home of Henry VIII and the Tudor Dynasty

Year 7 had a fantastic trip to Hampton Court Palace on Tuesday.  They started the day with a taught session by a member of the Palace’s education team, aptly dressed as a Tudor servant.  With her help, pupils explored the religious rollercoaster that was the Tudor period, with the swings between Catholicism and Protestantism over the reins of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary and Elizabeth I.

The children excelled in their knowledge, showing a fantastic understanding of the events and issues of the era.  After a well-earned lunch (no wild boar, swans or beavers unfortunately), they were split into smaller groups and explored the Tudor kitchens, the Young Henry Exhibition and William III’s staterooms.  Thanks to Mr.Loughton, one group also managed to track down the ‘haunted door’ which famously swung open and closed of its own volition during recent renovations.  A good day was had by all.
