Locomotive

George, Oliver and Luca have helped Mr Jackson to build a model locomotive over the last 18 months.

The model was supplied by Roundhouse Engineering in kit form. It is a radio controlled live steam model based on a narrow gauge locomotive (as seen on the Welsh slate lines). The boys have assembled the chassis, motion and radio control linkages and Mr Jackson built the bodywork at home.

The boys’ commitment to the project has been very impressive – there was certainly lots of reading to do and many intricate parts. The fact that the locomotive runs so well is a tribute to the time and care they put in each Thursday lunchtime. Half way through, the engine was returned to Roundhouse to have the valve timing checked. The manager, Harry Harrison wrote back to say what a good job that the boys had done and that ‘there was a job up there in Doncaster for the lads’!
