Kindness Week
This week Winterfold celebrates Kindness, which incorporates Anti-Bullying. This year there are two themes which we have focused on; Be Kind Whenever Possible and Reach Out.
Throughout the week, the children have had assemblies and workshops on the importance of kindness in the community and the positive impact that we are all responsible for. Reminding the children to feel empowered to be respectful, caring, inclusive, responsible and courageous as we continue to have high expectations and standards of behaviour and pastoral care throughout the school. Pupils have been reminded about the small things that go a long way; the manners, the smiles, looking after those less fortunate, and respecting our beautiful environment. We are so proud that the children of this school completely embody this as a concept as it is so natural to them.
Recently the Pupil Voice initiative has been introduced. Historically, we have had a School Council amongst other committees, but now every pupil in the Prep School is in a Pupil Voice group, giving them the ability and opportunity to be heard. We now have Spiritual Leaders, Pack Councils, Community Committees, Eco Schools, Food Council, School Newspaper amongst others. The recently formed Charity Council were instrumental in the extremely successful Coats for Schools’ initiative as well as the Lend with Care Project; all of this has been led and driven by the Pupils. The children involved in the ENID (Every Need is Different) Project, have had some specific training on becoming Peer Mentors and Listeners. The Radio Committee have been producing a wonderful weekly podcast; if you haven’t heard this, please do keep an eye on our social media channels for further details and links. We are looking to expand this programme into Pre-Prep.
Finally, to finish Kindness Week there will be the annual and traditional Odd Socks Day. This day is important as we celebrate the unique nature of every member of our community. We look forward to seeing the wonderful and unusual socks which will be added to the uniform this Friday, 18th November. We will not be asking for a donation this year.
