HeadsUp Mental Health Awareness Session
Reception were very lucky to have Laura from Heads Up Mental Health Association visit them in school. HeadsUp aims to empower and quip young people to look after their mental health, helping them to develop a whole set of personal strengths and skills to prepare them for later in life. It promotes the understanding, raising awareness and breaking down the stigma that surrounds mental health issues. They believe that you can’t be too young to start looking after your mental health.
Laura delivered a session to each Reception class; she got them talking about their emotions and thinking about how their body language and facial expressions show how they or others might be feeling. She explored the emotions of being happy, sad, angry and scared, explaining that it is important to talk about your feelings. Laura demonstrated and suggested different strategies that the children could use to help them with their emotions, this included deep breathing techniques and the use of physical exercise. It was an enjoyable experience for the children.
