Abby’s Story – From Winterfold to Bromsgrove

From Winterfold to Bromsgrove: Then and Now

We are delighted to share a series of student profiles celebrating the journey from Winterfold School to Bromsgrove. Each story reflects the strong beginnings shaped at Winterfold, where character, confidence, and curiosity first took hold, and shows how those foundations continue to support our pupils as they thrive at Bromsgrove today.

These profiles honour what Winterfold means to them and highlight the remarkable young people they have become.

Today, we share Abby’s journey from Winterfold to Bromsgrove.

Name: Abby W (Old Winterfoldian 2010-2023, Nursery to Year 8)

Current Year Group at Bromsgrove: Fifth Form

House at Bromsgrove: Thomas Cookes

In 2010, I joined Winterfold Nursery as a six-month-old baby and stayed until the final year – Year 8. I could not be more thankful and grateful to Winterfold. Being part of such a wonderful community always made me, and others, feel appreciated and welcomed, no matter what year you were in. The teachers were nurturing, kind, and always had my best interests at heart.

Throughout my years at Winterfold I always tried to be involved in as many activities as possible – I was part of Outstanding Winterfold Learners (or ‘OWLS’ as we are known), Groove Diggers, Off Beats, Saxophone group, Chamber Choir, Girls’ Harmony Choir, Ski Trips and Residentials, Senior Plays, Hockey, Cross-Country, Netball, Cricket and the summer Sports Camps.

Moving to Bromsgrove is a big step, however, Winterfold prepared me in so many ways. The leavers’ programme gives Year 8 pupils a significant step forward in what to expect after Winterfold. From the transition days at Bromsgrove, giving us a head start on the move to Senior School, to talking to us about GCSE options, and how the School system works, enabled those in Year 8 to feel more confident and well-prepared for what was to follow after the summer holidays.

Bromsgrove has continued this sense of belonging ever since my first day. It has made me the best version of myself, supported me through my sport and academics, whilst knowing that I am part of a community. Winterfold to Bromsgrove felt like a natural transition.

Hockey is my favourite activity at Bromsgrove, and I have enjoyed representing the School in many events around the country. It has given me a great sense of achievement and pride for myself, individually, for the team, and for the School. Bromsgrove has also given me the opportunity to commence the Duke of Edinburgh award, of which I have finished my bronze and am currently working towards silver.

I have many memories at Winterfold that I will cherish forever, and I know there will be many more to come at Bromsgrove. I feel very privileged to have had my formative years at Winterfold and I could not think of a better place to grow up. This journey has continued for me at Bromsgrove, and I know that this will flourish into my last few years. I am proud to be both an Old Winterfoldian and a current Bromsgrovian.
