Learning at Winterfold
At Winterfold, we believe in nurturing curious minds, developing confident learners, and providing an inspiring foundation for life.
Our school is structured into three key stages: Kindergarten, Pre-Prep, and Prep, offering a seamless journey from the early years through to Year 8.
Classes are kept small with a low pupil-to-teacher ratio, allowing us to give each child the attention and support they need to thrive. Every class has a dedicated Form Tutor, responsible for both the academic progress and wellbeing of each pupil.
In Pre-Prep, specialist Teaching Assistants work closely with teachers to provide even more personalised care.
From Year 3 onwards, children are increasingly taught by subject specialists in well-equipped, purpose-built classrooms, ensuring a rich and engaging learning experience. Pupils in Years 3 to 8 are in mixed-ability forms, with setting in English and Maths to tailor challenge and support effectively.
Kindergarten
Our Kindergarten provides the perfect start to a child’s educational journey. Here, we focus on building firm foundations through a play-based curriculum that balances indoor and outdoor learning.
Time is split between the classroom and Peacock Lodge, our dedicated Outdoor Learning Centre, where pupils are encouraged to explore nature, develop early IT and investigative skills, and build confidence through curiosity and discovery.
Pre-Prep (Ages 4–7)
Winterfold’s Pre-Prep is a warm and vibrant setting with purpose-built classrooms designed for young learners. Our pupils benefit from access to the full range of school facilities including the heated swimming pool, sports hall, theatre, and of course, the 40 acres of grounds, which include our own Forest School and dedicated adventure playground.
While academic development is a focus, we remain mindful that childhood is precious. Alongside a broad and stimulating curriculum, children are given time and space to play, imagine, and enjoy the wonder of being young.
Prep (Ages 7–13)
The transition from Pre-Prep to Prep at Year 3 is made as smooth as possible, children move into classrooms just a short step away and are already familiar with many of the staff and routines. The Prep School offers a dynamic and stimulating environment for children aged 7 to 13, with a curriculum that becomes increasingly specialist as pupils progress through the years.
