Kindergarten 1 have been listening to the story of ‘The Enormous Turnip’ this week. In their outdoor learning sessions, they have been digging up and ‘planting’ different vegetables. This was a great opportunity to build language and support early maths skills by sorting and counting the different vegetables. We also planted radish seeds which we hope to see growing over the next few weeks. We looked at the seeds and what fully grown radishes look like before tasting them – there were mixed reviews but a surprising number of children are now radish fans!
Kindergarten 2 have been learning about frogs this week and have enjoyed playing ‘pond bingo’ to support their language development by recognising and naming living aspects of a pond e.g. ‘froglet’, ‘tadpole’, ‘toad’, ‘lily pads’. They have been learning about the life cycle of frogs and especially enjoyed the ‘frogspawn’ sensory play to sort the four stages from frogspawn to adult frog.
Pre-prep after school club have been making the most of the Beeches STEM room to practise their coding with the ‘Beebots’, investigate the microscopes and creating structures with different types of construction.
WOW Toddlers had a ‘dinosaur’ theme this week; great fun was had with the dinosaur small world and the ‘dino car’ washing station. The children also explored the mud kitchen getting creative ‘cooking’ and pushing the wheelbarrows back and forth. These sessions are run every Tuesday during term time from 2pm-3pm and are free of charge.
