Peacock Lodge Weekly Round-Up

Carrots, rabbits, and chicks have been at the heart of learning for Kindergarten One at Peacock Lodge this week. The children have been fully immersed in a range of Easter-themed activities, from digging up carrots to rolling eggs down chutes and carefully placing them into egg cups. They also enjoyed sensory play, filling chick and carrot containers with oats, supporting their developing curiosity and fine motor skills.

At Forest School, Kindergarten One listened to the story We’re Going on an Egg Hunt. Having recently explored the familiar bear hunt version, the children confidently joined in with the repeating language. They then delighted in egg-and-spoon races, searched for hidden eggs around the forest area, and explored hard-boiled eggs, carefully peeling away the shells.

Kindergarten Two have been learning about the signs of spring, observing changes in the environment such as blooming flowers and warmer, sunnier weather. They closely studied and painted tulips, noticing the colours of the petals and recalling key vocabulary such as stem and leaves. The children also made seed bombs by mixing seeds with flour, soil, and water, ready to place around Peacock Lodge and Forest School. To celebrate the end of term, they proudly received their ‘Spring Challenge’ outdoor learning badge, marked with a special Easter treat.

Reception explored two egg-themed stories: Eggs Are Quiet, which introduced them to the variety of egg sizes and colours, and The Odd Egg which sparked curiosity about the mystery animal hatching from a large egg. The children enjoyed a fun matching activity, pairing eggs to the correct birds, before using watercolours to design and paint their own egg pictures. The session concluded with the children being awarded their well-earned ‘Bird Watching’ badge. They have thoroughly enjoyed learning about different types of birds, their calls, and their habitats—knowledge they will continue to build on during Forest School sessions.

Years 1 and 2 ended the term with a special visit to Peacock Lodge. They created Easter nests using sticks and playdough, painted spring-themed watercolour pictures, and made spring ‘cone’ animals. The children also took part in an Easter hunt, searching for hidden pictures around Peacock Lodge and working together to solve an anagram.
