Drama is an essential skill for children in order for them to learn empathy and self-control. At Winterfold, every child will have at least one drama lesson each week and there will be opportunities outside of the classroom.
All children are given the opportunity to perform individually, in pairs and groups of various sizes.
Drama helps the children’s ability to listen and appreciate the work of others. It encourages spontaneity and creativity, giving everyone a chance to participate to a level they are comfortable with.
Drama lessons are an opportunity for the children to express themselves in a different way. This may be through noise, movement or gesture. The children need to learn self-control and to know that the environment is a safe one to be able to perform freely.
Our recent Senior school performances have included: My Fair Lady, The Orphan’s Way Home (based on Oliver), Joseph and The Technicolour Dream Coat, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Olivia.
Other performances have included: An Evening of Monologues, Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes, Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet.
Extra-Curricular trips are important and visits to professional theatre companies at Stratford, Birmingham, Worcester and Malvern are well attended. We are fortunate to be situated in an area so well provided with opportunities to see professional drama of the highest standard.
