The life and times of the Tudors

Our Year 1 historians have been learning about life in Tudor times at Harvington Hall, both below and above stairs.  After fetching water from the well and learning about the roles of the kitchen staff, they took a look at Tudor clothes.  Boys had to wear dresses until the age of 6 – the Year 1 boys weren’t overly impressed….

The children learned about food and how the dirty base of the bread would be cut off and the upper classes given the upper crust.  They were fascinated by many things;  the priest hides, making fire using steel and flint, the very different toilets and the fact that there were no taps.

It was great today to experience life in a very old building and learn about the Tudor way of life, which, the children have learned, was very different from our own.
