South Africa Tour

The eighth sports tour to South Africa was a great success and pupils will be talking about it for many years to come.  Without doubt, the highlight of the tour was the visit to our sister school, Ncemaneni. This was a very humbling and emotional experience for everyone.  It was a privilege to meet Mr Duma who had been a pupil at the School during Winterfold’s first visit in 2005. As a result of the partnership between the two schools, Mr Duma had been able to realise his ambition of going to University, training as a teacher and returning to Ncemaneni as a teacher.

The whole Winterfold community is very proud of the positive impact that our partnership has on both the Ncemaneni learners and our children. Not taking things for granted, appreciating a good education, caring for others through actions are just some of the lessons that we learn. It really was an inspirational day and we will continue to do as much as possible to help the learners at Ncemaneni. We have the Chiltern Challenge coming up next term, which will help to raise money for the Media Centre, which will contain a library and computer room. This will have a much-needed impact both on their English and I.T literacy skills. We will also be fundraising for a new toilet building, which will greatly improve the hygiene for the children at Ncemaneni. Please keep an eye on the Ncemaneni board for more details.

The tour was like a highlights package right from the word go, with something interesting and exciting to look forward to every day.  An article on the tour will feature in the next News Review.

A huge thank you to the supporters’ group who were such great company and support on the tour and really added to the atmosphere.  Final thanks also go to Mrs Humfress, Mr Dieppe and Madame Farrell for their energy, professionalism and enthusiasm. The children were a fantastic group to take on tour and will have lifelong memories and lessons to take from it. Their behaviour and organisation for 12 and 13 year olds on the other side of the world was superb.
