Remembrance Mass

Remembrance Mass on Thursday morning was a sombre, but heartfelt occasion.  It is the only time of the year where we are blessed to have the orchestra accompany the hymns during Mass and it marks it as special and sacred.  They did an outstanding job of playing us in to Abide With Me and they played us out at the end, to I Vow To Thee My Country.

During the Mass, Year 8 served on the altar and read from the Old Testament and the Bidding prayers.  It is a Winterfold tradition that the Head Boy and Girl read the names from the Roll of Honour and a verse from the famous poem, For the Fallen.

Special mentions should also go to Will F and Annabel L who played the Last Post and the Reveille on the trumpet to mark the minute’s silence.  Well done to Annabelle K who read an extra verse of the poem and to Tom A who stepped up to serve at the last minute.

It really was a wonderful reflection of the pride that the pupils here at Winterfold take in this Mass and we all felt proud of them.

At the heart of it all were the thoughts and prayers offered to the faithful departed, who have given up their lives for us all in war.
