Peacock Lodge Weekly Round-Up

It has been another fun packed week of outdoor learning at Peacock Lodge with the children enjoying lots of Bonfire Night related opportunities supporting their physical and creative development.

Kindergarten have especially loved using spray bottles to paint fiery bonfire pictures and chalk paint to follow firework shaped patterns. Reception have used wool and feathers to make their own ‘sparklers’ which also doubled as wands within their role play.

The breezy weather has been thoroughly enjoyed by all the children across Early Years as they have twirled and looped colourful ribbons to portray the movements of fireworks, whilst the Autumn leaves have resulted in shrieks of joy as the children have thrown, jumped and even lay in the fresh layer of leaves.

At Forest School Kindergarten one shared the story ‘Hide and Seek Pig’, another ‘Tale from Acorn Wood’. Afterwards we learnt the game ‘1, 2, 3 where are you?’ which encouraged the children to use their listening skills to find their hiding friends.  At snack time the children listened to the story of ‘The three little pigs’ before making their own homes for the pigs and playing ‘What’s the time Mr Wolf’.  These simple games give the children the opportunity to play together following basic rules as well as being lots of fun!

Reception’s forest school session resulted in some wonderful teamwork as the children worked together to safely move logs to make their own ‘bonfire’, adding an array of colourful leaves to create the ‘flames’. We also recycled the left-over pumpkins by scrapping them out and using the base as a bird feeder; sustainability and an early ecological awareness are important aspects of our outdoor learning and forest school sessions.
