Isla secures her place with Worcestershire Rapids

Congratulations to Isla C who has secured her place in the Worcestershire Rapids CCC U13 squad.

Isla, who is in Year 7, started playing cricket for fun on a Friday night at Belbroughton Cricket Club seven years ago. She continued to play in the summer programme, alongside her many other hobbies and sports.

The young athlete was put forward for trials by Director of Sport, Julia Humfress two years ago and was asked to join in with Worcestershire CCC Girls’ winter training programme. Last year, Isla trialled and was successful in gaining a place in the U11s squad. She very much enjoyed the training sessions, experience of playing in County matches and forming new friendships with girls from a range of clubs and areas within the County. Isla joined the newly formed Belbroughton Girls’ team last season and was nominated by them to re-trial this year for the U13s.

“I was a lot more determined at trials this year” said Isla “and I really wanted it so much! Having experienced being part of the U11 team for a year, I knew that I really wanted to get a place in the U13s and continue learning and training. I knew it would be tough, as there were girls with greater skill levels who had already completed a year in that age group but I trained hard and made the most of my 1:1 training sessions after school. I couldn’t believe it when Mum said I was in the squad and felt so proud! Even better was the fact that some of my team mates had also secured places and we get to take this next step together.”
