Exploring Transport Through the Ages

Year 2 pupils had a thoroughly enjoyable trip to Coventry Transport Museum on May 21st to support their History studies.

The day began with an interactive workshop looking at the development of the cycle through the Victorian era. During the session, pupils examined and discussed four historical cycles, arranging them into chronological order and learning about how the different designs evolved. The highlight of this session was the use of scooters to test friction and how this has impacted on tyre design over the years. The children donned their safety gear and used their team building skills to investigate and form their own conclusions. Observational skills were practically developed through drawing and recording key information about these cycles.

After a picnic lunch, the children ventured along the Transport Timeline exploring a variety of vehicles through the ages, from a Daimler Wagonette to a Humber Super Snipe and Ted Simon’s Triumph Tiger 100.  The museum also has the ThrustSSC which set the new land speed record and broke the sound barrier with a speed of 763mph.

Following an extremely successful visit, one of the children commented , “this is the best school trip ever!”
