Discover History – Ancient Greek Festival

On Thursday 9th March, budding Yr 4 historians were treated to an Ancient Greek festival by Discover History.

Pupils learned a lot about everyday life in Ancient Greece, were able to try on outfits similar to those worn at the time, looked at make up and jewellery, food and cooking utensils, lighting and discussed home life.

Following a stint at the Greek Olympics involving javelin, discus, long jump, wrestling and boxing, the highlight of the day was the recreation of the Battle of Thermopylae which involved looking at weapons and learning spear and shield drill.

Anna Eddy, Head of Classics commented “the day was a tremendous success! The children thoroughly enjoyed dressing up as Greek hoplites and re-enacting the famous Battle of Thermopylae.”
