Castles, Knight School and 1066

In History, Year 1 have been learning about homes of the past, focusing on castles and 1066.

On Tuesday 16th October, our intrepid historians started their trip to Tamworth Castle with a general tour of the grounds, looking at dungeons, arrow slits and armoury rooms. They looked at rooms of different styles through the ages and had a workshop on how to become a servant.  It was fun to set up the Dining Room for the lord and lady of the castle, learn how to bow and curtsy and look at what items a rich person would have had on their table. A few children then tried on clothes of the day. The boys were horrified to find out that they would have had to wear dresses in medieval times.

In the afternoon, the children went to Knight School, where they had the opportunity to look at armour and weapons.

It was a great trip, which brought medieval times and the children’s topic to life.
