The Secret Garden was a rather lively place this morning as Winterfold families gathered for our annual Pet Blessing – and what a wonderful menagerie we had!
Conducted by Father Lamb, the special service brought together an assortment of much-loved pets, from cats and dogs to parrots, a horse and plenty of other furry, feathered and four-legged friends in between.
Among our guests was Dolly Bird, who made a very special appearance, while Zach’s African Grey parrot, Bernard, undoubtedly stole the show. Bernard joined in with the congregation during our hymn, adding his own very enthusiastic contribution to a rousing rendition of All Things Bright and Beautiful, accompanied beautifully by Mr Price on the keys.
Our Spiritual Leaders and Year 8 pupils also played an important part in the service, helping to lead the congregation and making it a truly whole-school celebration. It was lovely to see so many parents and extended family members joining us too, alongside the pupils and their pets.
Of course, bringing quite so many animals, children and grown-ups together in one place was never going to be entirely orderly – and there were certainly moments of joyful chaos! But, in many ways, that was exactly what made the morning so special.
There was something wonderfully quintessential about seeing our Secret Garden filled with families, animals, music and laughter, all gathered together to celebrate the creatures that are such an important part of our lives.
It may have been complete chaos, but it was chaos in the very best Winterfold Way – warm, joyful, inclusive and full of life.
A huge thank you to everyone who brought along their pets and joined us for such a memorable morning. 🐾
