Friends of Winterfold

Friends of Winterfold is an organisation set up to promote goodwill and a sense of community amongst parents and friends of the school. We achieve this through social events put on throughout the school year. All money raised at our events is used to support special projects in the school. There is an annual Christmas Market, discos for the children, a Family Fun Day and a biannual Summer Ball. We also sponsor speakers and organise social evenings.

The FOW School Shop sells secondhand uniform, new games kit, school coats, hats and scarves, bags and mathematics equipment and is staffed by a group of willing parents. The profits have enabled us to purchase match kit for all the teams in the school. The shop is open every morning during term time.

FOW Committee meetings are open to all. There are two in the Autumn term and one at the beginning of the Lent and Summer terms.

If you would like to find out more about Friends of Winterfold and dates of the next meeting please contact the Chairman, David Aldred, via the school office or Vice Chair, Jenny Robbins, at jennymrobbins@hotmail.com or 078997975353.

Recent Friends of Winterfold Events:

The Auction of Promises and Quiz Night in February 2011 was a well attended evening with a stunning range of promises, including tickets to Twickenham, holiday villas and a sack of potatoes! The generosity of those who donated items and those who bid on the night was amazing, resulting in a fabulous total of £9000. All proceeds from the evening were for Ncemaneni Primary School in South Africa which the Winterfold Sports Tour visited in April 2011.

In January a group of some 50 children, staff, parents and grandparents set off on the coach for a Pantomime Trip to see Aladdin at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. The performance was excellent!

The Friends of Winterfold Christmas Market has become a Winterfold tradition and 2010 was the tenth year that this seasonal offering has taken place! Santa's Grotto was more spectacular than ever this year and there was a wide range of goods on offer from our guest stalls, aumented by the tombolas, tea room, sweet and cake stalls. The profit from the market was nearly £2000. A big thank you to everyone who helped!

Seven Secrets of Successful Parenting On Thursday 7th October 2010, Friends of Winterfold were delighted to bring an interesting and lively talk to Winterfold. Georgia Coleridge and Karen Doherty have eight children between them and are passionate about parenting! Their well-attended presentation, entitled The Seven Secrets of Successful Parenting, was both entertaining and informative Whether you are a sorted parent or a commando parent, there were tips for everyone! The discussion continued over drinks and canapés.

The FOW Family Fun Day and Pet Show in May 2010 saw nearly fifty dogs of all shapes and sizes enjoying the attention of the crowds in beautiful sunshine! Particular thanks must go to our resident vet and judge, Lisa Langford, for the very difficult task of selecting the winners of the various classes. The pig roast, ice creams, games, tombolas, bouncy castles and go carts were busy all afternoon and the day was rounded off by a superb performance from the Groove Diggers and tea and cakes on the lawn. As ever, Friends of Winterfold rely on the support from a hard working group of parents before, during and after the event. A huge thank you to everyone who helped in any way. The day was primarily about having a good time in Winterfold’s lovely grounds but we raised a fantastic £1700 which will be put to good use providing extra items in school.

FOW have recently purchased a pool table for the Year 7and 8 Common Room, a keyboard and music stands for the Music Department, chess sets for the Prep school and some wooden play equipment for the Early Years playground. FOw also provides doughnuts for all the children who come to school on Open Days!
