Packs
Winterfold is divided into four packs - Kites, Hawks, Swifts and Eagles - which encourages both community and team contribution. All children in the Prep School belong to one of the Packs and carry an individual Pack Card to record any ‘pluses’ (rewards for effort or good behaviour) they may receive in the course of their school day.
There is a termly Pack Competition and all members of the winning Pack are invited to a ‘pack treat’. There are inter-pack sports fixtures and the academic effort and achievement of each individual member of the pack is taken into account for the competition. We believe that competition should be an aid to motivation and never an end in itself. In this way the conscientious or thoughtful child can make a contribution every bit as valuable as an academic or athletic one.
Each pack has its own leaders who are children in Year 8. As children at the top of the school they are expected to serve as role models to those younger than themselves and to play an important part in the day to day running of the school. Such responsibility fosters confidence and independence and leads to success in other areas.
